8 Week Wheel Throwing Course

Service Description

Learn to wheel throw in eight weeks with a small group and focused coaching. We'll meet Mondays from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm starting March 16. Class size is limited to eight students, so you'll get personal guidance every session. This course is for beginners and returning potters who want to be taught clear fundamentals and desire steady progress each week. We'll start with wedging, centering, pulling clean walls, and controlling shape. Throughout the course, I'll demonstrate how to throw cups, bowls, plates, mugs, vases, lidded jars, teapots, and sectional forms. You are welcome to follow the demos or pursue your own project. You choose how to use your class time. You could make multiple mini pots or focus on one larger piece. The weekly arc - Week 1 - Wedging, centering, cylinders Week 2 - Cups and small bowls, thickness control, trimming demo Week 3 - Taller cylinders/vases and mugs, making and attaching handles Week 4 - Plates and wide bowls, foot design, trimming focus Week 5 - Lidded jars and lid fit Week 6 - Finish all throwing and refine forms Week 7 - Glazing fundamentals and surface options, begin glazing your work Week 8 - Finish glazing and prepare for final firing What's included - Three hours each week with hands on teaching from Dr. T. One twenty five pound bag of clay per person. All studio tools, aprons, glazes, and firings for work made in class What to know - Open studio time is not included. If needed, we can negotiate on a case by case basis. There will be one optional makeup session for the group towards the end of the 8 week course. Extra clay is available at one dollar and fifty cents per pound. Recycled clay is one dollar per pound. Outside clay and glazes are welcome if they are cone five or cone six. Bring your own tools if you prefer. If there are not any spots available, please feel free to send me an email and I will add you to my waitlist to be notified if any spots open up. Re-enrollment - Students from this session will have priority booking for the following eight-week course at the same price as the initial course. These slots will be reserved until two weeks prior to the following eight-week course. Results you can expect - By week eight you will throw with more control and confidence, understand how to plan and finish forms, trim clean feet, and glaze with intention. You will leave with finished pieces you are proud to use and gift, along with a repeatable workflow you can build on.
